Rest as resistance as a movement is nothing new, but practicing it is a struggle. See how self-care building is quite literally wealth-building. Join us for a conversation about normalizing practices of a healing-centered work environment in the day-to-day hustle and what it means to build a culture of collective care for sustaining the future of our communities.

PRESENTERS

Hadija Steen Mills

Hadija Steen Mills [they|she] is a queer, mixed-Black, first-generation, and parent of twins who was born and raised on Dakota land commonly known as Minneapolis. They hold a Master in Public Health and Bachelor’s in Science from the University of Minnesota and are working to complete their PhD focused on the Sociology of Health and Illness. Hadija is passionate about the creation of a world free of inequities and advocates for autonomy for the most systematically oppressed.

Hadija is the Founding Director of the Healthcare Reparations Cooperative, a growing organization that pushes for unifying, creative, and anti-oppressive approaches to a new world where community care elicits health and healing.

Nausheena Hussain

Nausheena Hussain is on a mission to create a philanthropic legacy for change in the Muslim community. She is reimagining a world where Muslims will draw from their heritage, history, and intersectional identities in order to make the world a better place. Nausheena Hussain, a social justice activist, is principal of Nissa Consulting, providing services to Muslim-led nonprofits and organizing Muslim philanthropy. She is currently the co-founder and executive director emerita of Reviving the Islamic Sisterhood for Empowerment, a platform established in 2016 for Muslim women by Muslim women to raise up and celebrate their positive community impact. Nausheena is the former deputy director of the Minnesota Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and currently serves on the board of the Center on Muslim Philanthropy. She is co-founder and board secretary of the Brooklyn Park Islamic Center and co-founder of the Muslim Youth Leadership Award.

Dr. Joi Lewis

Dr. Joi Lewis is the author of Healing: The Act of Radical Self-Care. She is a community healer, joy instigator, scholar and founder of two organizations: Joi Unlimited and the Healing Justice Foundation. As a highly sought out speaker, facilitator and space holder, she is on a mission to put healing in the hands of everyone, everywhere. Her work is deeply informed by growing up in East St. Louis, Illinois, and is grounded in healing justice and Black liberation. She claims her adult home in the Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota. She has a daily practice of showing up fully in her body and lives in connection with all who believe in freedom.
